As with the case of “Gigi,” Alan Jay Lerner had appealed to Louis Jourdan for a considerable period, before the actor agreed to take the demanding lead in the musical “On a Clear Day, You Can See Forever.” By the time the deal was signed, two major composers had left the project, and the music for the final production was composed by Burton Lane.
